Cuffley Players Theatre Group

The Cuffley Players was formed in 1933 by a small group of local enthusiasts to put on plays for the entertainment of the residents of Cuffley. Many of these plays were written especially for The Players by founder member Geoffrey Orme who later wrote some of the scripts for the early series of Dr Who.

The Players went from strength to strength and are still going after more than 80 years. Nowadays our members and supporters come not just from Cuffley but from the surrounding areas from Enfield to St Albans.

We produce two full length plays a year one about March/April and another in November/December, an occasionally a one-act play in the summer, which may be entered for local competitions, so there is always plenty of opportunity to become involved in a production. We try to maintain a high standard, so no wobbly sets, poor lighting, inadequate props or inaudible delivery when you come to see a “Players” production.

Recent Repertoire

Our repertoire is varied, in recent years we have performed costume drama like Pride and Prejudice, pure entertainment like Stepping Out, gritty drama like Pack of Lies and a number of Alan Ayckbourn comedies which are always popular.

We rehearse on Monday and Thursday evenings. We are lucky enough to have access to excellent facilities at Cuffley Hall with a good sized stage, dressing room and comfortable seating with plenty of leg room and very importantly an efficient, reasonably priced bar.

We have an active social programme of coffee mornings, cream teas, quiz nights and even a Square Dance and the committee is always open to suggestions for a fun social event.

We welcome new members of any age (you’re never too old) either on stage or behind the scenes, there is plenty to do - with production and direction, set-building, decor, lighting, sound, props, costume, prompt, front-of-house, publicity, box-office and of course acting. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never done anything like this before – come along, meet people, have a go and see if you like it. Whatever your talents – even if you think “none of the above” we’re sure to find a role to suit you.
